Choose a trading platform that suits your needs
10 years ago, the choices I had for choosing a trading platform were limited. I recall the main choices being TradeStation or NinjaTrader. I chose NinjaTrader and I have been a customer ever since.

Although there were several teething problems when I migrated over from NT7 to NT8, I have been extremely happy with what their platform offers. Therefore, with respect to alternate trading platforms my experience is limited. Your best bet is to chat with your broker about what platforms are available for the data feed you wish to use.

Data Feeds are NOT all the same
When choosing a data feed, you want reliable technology you can depend on. It needs to be able to deliver the high volume of data generated by today’s markets completely unfiltered from the exchange direct to your desktop.

I use CQG as my primary data feed and Kinetick as a backup. You do not need to spend money on a backup data feed unless you feel you need it. CQG has never let me down and as far as I can recall has been up and running for 99.9% of the time. I have been trading for 10 years and I can count on one hand how many times the data feed has been down. I do not have any horror stories to share, but again, this is a conversation you need to have with your broker. The bottom line is, if you are in a trade and your data feed drops you can always call your broker you can handle the trade for you.
